What are Counterfeit Watches all about? - Info On Counterfeit Mens Luxury Watches

Counterfeiting has been around for centuries. There are many counterfeit watches and this affects almost all brands. In the world of counterfeiting, there are several qualities of manufacture. It is important to know that some are easily identifiable, others are much less.
Some brands are investing huge budgets in the fight against counterfeiting. But just as it took considerable time for a brand to be known, to establish marketing, to create their brand image and to have their place on the market for luxury watches, it is also time consuming and requires important finances not to lose these benefits by letting the market be flooded with fakes.
In most cases, counterfeits are manufactured in Asia. They are of poor quality compared to the original product and in truth, each piece is identifiable. For example, if we take a watch from Rolex you'll find that we can identify a copy through numerous details such as the dial, crown, typography used on the dial and date, bracelet, serial number, etc.. Regarding the movement mechanism, the best way to identify a copy is to open the watch, but it is not always possible, especially when making a purchase by mail.
Now i'll enumerate some of the most common types of counterfeit watches :
  • Chinese models - Chinese models (or Taiwanese, who are usually the same in terms of quality) are the worst quality distributed on the market. Most often watches are not even made of steel, much less gold, but poor quality alloy. Just scratch this watch with a knife to show the first layer metal giving way. In addition, these watches do not even have automatic movements, but a battery with a quartz movement. These watches are easily identifiable.
  • Japanese models -  They resemble the original more closely. The "Japanese models" have in fact better watch manufacturing and generally have Japanese automatic movements. Not all of the parts are  manufactured in Japan but they use just a Miyota Japanese brand movement  for the most part. This is not an automatic movement that is highly resistant  in time and is far from equaling the Swiss movements.
  • Swiss Models - Swiss models are more difficult to identify. Regarding the outside of the watch, only a few details allow identification. The most used movements are the ETA brand (Swiss movements of very good quality) to simple automatic watches, [the Poljot (Russian) movement  and Valjoux (Swiss movements of very good quality) for stopwatches]. These movements are more often used for replica Rolex Daytona. These are called "swiss" counterfeits because of the swiss like quality of the movements. There is no manufacturing of counterfeit goods in Switzerland, contrary to what many manufacturers try to make believe. These watches are the most difficult to identify, but with enough time there'll always be one or more details to differentiate them. To make a perfect counterfeit requires a manufacturer to sell at a price close to that of an original watch.
